Twiggy is the undisputed face of her generation and represents the spirit of change that swept through the fashion world in the 1960’s. London born Twiggy was championed early in her career by seminal American Vogue editor Diana Vreeland and is the subject of many of the most enduring fashion images shot by Richard Avedon, Steven Meisel, Norman Parkinson, Barry Lategan, Nick Knight, Melvin Sokolsky and Cecil Beaton. Twiggy became a successful actress in film, stage and television, beginning her acting career by starring in Ken Russell’s film The Boyfriend, for which she won two Golden Globe awards: most promising newcomer and best actress in a musical. In the US she was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway hit musical “My One and Only”.
Over the last 50 years Twiggy has embraced acting, singing, dancing, modelling and designing and remains one of Britain’s most cherished stars culminating in her Damehood in the Queens New year’s list for her services to fashion, the performing arts and charity. In 2019 Twiggy turned 70 and returned to the pages of Vogue Italia and appeared on the BBC television show Ru Paul’s Drag Race as a celebrity judge.
